DR. TIFFANY BROWN SHELTON

Dr. Tiffany Brown Shelton is a leadership strategist, organizational development professional, author, speaker, and educator dedicated to helping people and organizations reach their highest potential. With more than two decades of experience in leadership in higher education, local government, human resources, and organizational development, she has spent her career studying what enables individuals, teams, and organizations to thrive.

She holds a Doctorate in Strategic Leadership, Masters degrees in Public Administration and Higher Education. She has obtained multiple professional certifications, including Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD). Her work has given her the opportunity to develop leaders across a wide range of industries.

Throughout her career, Tiffany noticed a pattern that transcended personalities, job titles, and organizations. The leaders who created the greatest impact were rarely the ones with the most impressive resumes. They were the ones whose identity was secure enough to lead with courage, humility, and conviction. That observation became the foundation for her research, her writing, and the development of the Capacities & Realities

Framework™, a practical model that helps leaders navigate organizational complexity while developing the personal capacities that create lasting influence.

Her professional work spans two complementary domains: enterprise-level Organizational Development & Performance, & Strategic Leadership and Coaching/ Leadership development in higher education.

professional domains

Domain 1 - Leadership & Human Resources

Dr. Tiffany currently serves as the Strategic Alignment Executive for the City of Greensboro, where she leads enterprise-wide efforts to align strategy, strengthen organizational performance, and build systems that improve execution across the organization. She works closely with executive leadership to advance strategic priorities, improve cross-functional collaboration, and develop the structures and operating practices that enable long-term organizational success.

In her previous role at Deputy Director of People & Culture, she helped design and align people systems that strengthen workforce strategy, leadership capacity, and organizational performance. Her career has focused on building leadership ecosystems that balance structure, accountability, and human-centered culture.

Her research interests include leadership development, organizational behavior, group dynamics, and talent management. Her doctoral research examined leading from the middle of organizations and the often-overlooked value of followership as a pathway to leadership excellence.

Domain 2 - Higher Education Leadership & Student Development

In parallel with her executive career, Dr. Tiffany has dedicated more than 25 years to cultivating leaders in higher education. A proud graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, she served her alma mater as Director and Coach of the Golden Delight Auxiliary with the NC A&T Marching Band and as Leadership Development Coordinator in Student Affairs since 2000.

Through this work, she has mentored and developed hundreds of college students, equipping them with the confidence, discipline, and leadership capacity needed to transition successfully into professional life. Her approach integrates identity development, accountability, team dynamics, and personal growth. She specializes in translating foundational leadership principles into structured growth experiences for emerging leaders and those who guide them.

Her work in Higher Education continues today. Dr. Tiffany currently works as an Adjunct Professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in the Professional Studies program.

BEHIND THE BRAND

The professional side of dr. Tiffany's story is part of the picture.

Long before she began researching leadership, she was living a different kind of lesson.

For years, achievement became the language through which she measured her value. Like so many high achievers, she believed hard work, excellence, service, and accomplishment would eventually produce the confidence and security she was searching for. Every degree, promotion, certification, and milestone brought satisfaction, but only for a moment. Before long, another goal appeared, another standard emerged, and another opportunity to prove herself took its place.

Over time, Dr. Tiffany realized she had become exceptionally skilled at earning. Earning approval. Earning recognition. Earning significance. Even her faith was often filtered through the quiet belief that she needed to perform well enough to deserve God's favor. That realization became the turning point.

As she studied psychology, leadership, organizational behavior, identity, and Scripture together, a single truth emerged with remarkable clarity: people live from the source of their worth. When worth depends on performance, every area of life becomes vulnerable to fear, comparison, perfectionism, and striving. When worth is received rather than achieved, leadership changes. Relationships change. Work changes. Life changes.

That discovery became Unlearn Earning.

Today, Unlearn Earning is more than a book series. It is a movement dedicated to helping people exchange performance for purpose, striving for freedom, and insecurity for an identity that cannot be earned or taken away. Whether Dr. Tiffany is speaking to audiences, coaching leaders, teaching students, writing books, or facilitating organizational transformation, her mission remains the same: to help people stop asking, "How do I prove my worth?" and start living from the confidence that their worth has already been established.

Because when the matter of your worth is settled, everything else changes.
